I was enthralled when my shaman friend Anthony showed off his NutSac on Facebook. I know that it might not be cool to say so, but I am an unabashed bag man who is always on the lookout for the perfect manbag (or “murse,” if you must). The NutSac I bought after admiring Anthony’s is pretty close to ideal.

One of the things that immediately drew my attention is the company’s choice of materials — leather, metal D-rings, and waxed canvas. With actual zippers, not Velcro. (The style reminds me of Filson luggage, which I also love, except for their nylon abominations.) NutSac bags are also made in the USA, which is a great bonus. (‘Merica!)

NutSac bags come in many sizes, just like men do, but I decided to get the smallest model — the “Man bag, damnit.” (Or “MBD,” as they call it.) It’s a great bag for carrying everyday items. And in practice it holds a lot more than you think it might. I’ve come to describing it as bigger on the inside than it is on the outside. To give you a better idea, mine easily holds the following in its main compartment:

• Kindle Paperwhite
• Chicobag
• Buff
• breath mints
• water bottle carabiner
• Bookfan
• mini flashlight
• monocular

The inside pocket holds:

• keys
• AirPods
• pen
• a couple of secret magician items

And the outside zipper pocket snugly holds my iPhone XS in a wallet case.

Believe it or not, this still leaves room for small purchases along the way. (The Chicobag is for larger items.)

One of my favorite features of the bag is that it has a long non-plastic carrying strap. It’s even long enough for me, a big guy who likes his NutSac slung low. (Those cheap bastards at Timbuk2 have shortened all their straps by several inches in order to eek out more profit. I haven’t bought a Timbuk2 bag since they did this.)

There are only a couple of things I might change about the MBD bag, but they are not serious enough to dampen my enthusiastic recommendation. I do wish they used zippers with metal teeth (ala Filson), and I might add a key-keeper strap to the inside pocket so the keys are easier to fish out.
